UK electrical retailer, Currys has chosen Ohme, the UK’s fastest growing smart EV charger manufacturer, as its new EV charger partner.
This exciting new partnership, will be a first for Currys as they will soon sell EV chargers direct to consumers, with Ohme products available online and with points of sale being rolled out across 50 of Currys’ flagship stores.
“With EV sales in the UK up more than 10% this year, this new partnership between Currys and Ohme chargers was a natural step to offer to our customers,” said Zoe Lucid, Senior Buyer at Currys. “Ohme’s award-winning chargers and reputation for excellent customer service meant it was the obvious choice for Currys’ customers helping them to make more sustainable choices combined with cutting-edge technology.”
“As the UK’s largest electrical retailer, we saw a collaboration with Currys as a big win for Ohme,” said David Watson, CEO at Ohme. “It’s an exciting new route to the retail market that will bring EV chargers to a new audience, helping them to access smarter, greener and cheaper EV charging in the future and ensuring that no driver is left behind in the transition to e-mobility.”
All of Ohme’s chargers can take advantage of Ohme’s smart charging technology to connect with the national grid in real time and automatically adjust their charging for drivers to take advantage of all the times of low price charging with smart dynamic tariffs.
With the average UK driver covering 6800 miles a year, smart charging on an off-peak tariff such as Intelligent Octopus Go at 7p/kWh in a typical EV would cost just £119 for a year’s worth of driving. At the Standard Variable Tariff of 24.5p/kWh, that same annual mileage would cost £416. By comparison, the same mileage in an equivalent petrol car would cost a driver more than £1100.
Ohme is the official charger provider for the Volkswagen Group and Volvo Cars in both the UK and Ireland as well as Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai in the UK. Ohme has also been named as Best Chargepoint Manufacturer in the 2024 Irish EV Awards.
