Welcome to the 2024 What Wallcharger? Awards – a totally new awards scheme that is in response to industry calls to recognise the great products being produced to enable EV owners to, literally, get moving.
What Wallcharger? was launched in January 2024 by founders Allan Pattison and Patrick Fuller – both publishing experts who between them have worked for the biggest automotive titles in the UK.
Allan is a former a co-founder of EVO magazine and Patrick, a former editor of Autocar, was head of automotive publishing for What Car?, Pistonheads, Autosport, Motorsport News, Motorsport. They have a long an illustrious history of developing automotive magazines and websites: they know what they are doing.
What Wallcharger? was borne out of an idea to create an information hub (through a YouTube channel and website) to will help people to choose the right wallcharger for them. Not all home chargers are the same – there are myriad products doing roughly the same thing, but they do have features and designs that are distinctly different, so we at What Wallcharger? provide the necessary information through our video and written reviews for EV owners. It’s all part of our philosophy: Choosing Chargers Made Simple.
Of course, innovation and practical solutions are central to What Wallcharger?’s mission so we were delighted to have Kerbocharge as our partner for the Awards. Kerbocharge (which featured as a successful company, pitching for investment on the BBC Programme Dragon’s Den) offers an innovative gully solution for EV owners who don’t have a driveway. Co-founder Michael Goulden is one of our judges and he’ll be helping to pick the winners for the 2024 What Wallcharger? Awards.
Which all begs the question, which is the best wallcharger?
Well, the Awards will help you answer that question, but it doesn’t boil down to one single charger and that’s why we have 12 different categories that recognise individual aspects of wallchargers that we have tested.
The categories are as follows:
Our judging system is rigorous. We score each category from 1 to 10 and the winners that score highest in each category win that category. The best overall score will determine the overall winner, but we do have a category highlights our personal pick: The What Wallcharger? Special Award. This will go to the wallcharger that simply has caught our eye and we would be happy to recommend to any EV buyer. It is, we admit, entirely subjective.
The judging panel comprises key members of the What Wallcharger? team, but we have also enlisted the help of Kerbocharge to help make our decisions.
The judges are as follows:
We will be announcing the winners in December on the Whatwallcharger.com and our YouTube channel so watch this space!
