Overview

The VCHRGD Seven Pro is pitched as a practical, well-specified home charger that blends everyday usability with a slightly more premium feel than your typical entry-level unit. Designed for domestic, fleet-at-home and workplace use, it focuses on doing the fundamentals well—reliable charging, strong connectivity, and straightforward installation—without overcomplicating the experience.

What stands out immediately is that this charger has clearly been designed with installers and real-world users in mind. The emphasis on ease of setup, durable construction, and flexible connectivity options makes it feel like a product aimed at hassle-free ownership rather than headline-grabbing gimmicks.

The Seven Pro keeps things understated but effective. The two-tone matte and gloss black finish gives it a modern, discreet look that will blend into most home environments without drawing too much attention.

More importantly, it’s built to last. The IK10-rated ABS casing is about as tough as it gets for a domestic charger, meaning it should comfortably withstand knocks, weather, and general wear over time. With an IP54 rating, it’s well suited to UK outdoor installations.

It’s also relatively compact and lightweight (around 3–4kg depending on configuration), so it won’t dominate wall space.

The tethered version offers a generous 7.5-metre cable, which is longer than many rivals and genuinely useful depending on driveway layout. Meanwhile, the untethered option gives a cleaner aesthetic and more flexibility.

A nice practical touch is the cable lock function, effectively allowing you to “convert” an untethered unit into a tethered one when needed.

The Seven Pro scores well on usability thanks to its broad connectivity options and straightforward approach.

You get:

  • WiFi connectivity for app control
  • Bluetooth for local access
  • RFID cards for tap-and-charge functionality
  • Optional 4G connectivity
  • OCPP 1.6 compatibility for backend integration

This means it can operate as a simple home charger or be integrated into more complex energy or fleet systems.

The inclusion of dynamic load balancing (via the supplied CT clamp) ensures your home’s electrical supply isn’t overloaded. It automatically adjusts charging speed depending on household demand—exactly what you want in a modern smart charger.

There’s also solar integration, allowing you to divert excess solar generation into your vehicle—an increasingly important feature for UK homeowners.

The system supports scheduling, app control, and secure charging via encrypted connections, although full details of the app experience and smart tariff integration are less clearly defined than with some more established competitors.

While official pricing isn’t widely publicised yet, the Seven Pro positions itself as a cost-effective premium option—offering many features you’d expect from higher-end chargers without necessarily commanding top-tier pricing.

You get a strong list of essentials as standard: dynamic load balancing (with CT clamp included), solar compatibility, and multiple connectivity options including WiFi, Bluetooth and RFID. Add in OCPP 1.6 compatibility, and it’s also future-ready for integration with third-party energy platforms.

The slightly shorter three-year warranty may give some buyers pause compared with rivals offering five years or more, but overall, the specification suggests solid value -particularly if installation savings from the push-fit system are realised.

Installation is one of the Seven Pro’s key selling points. The push-fit connection system and modular design are intended to reduce install time and complexity, which could translate into lower installation costs and easier maintenance over time.

Safety is also a strong area. The charger includes:

  • Over/under voltage protection
  • Temperature monitoring
  • 6mA DC leakage protection

These are all essential features and bring it in line with UK smart charging regulations.

The inclusion of two RFID cards in the box is a useful touch, especially for households wanting controlled access without relying solely on an app.

  • 7.4kW single-phase AC (32A)
  • Tethered (5m or 7.5m) and untethered Type 2 options
  • Dynamic load balancing (CT clamp included)
  • Solar charging compatible (CT-based monitoring)
  • WiFi, Bluetooth and RFID connectivity
  • Optional 4G connectivity
  • OCPP 1.6 compliant
  • Built-in PEN protection (no earth rod required)
  • IP54 / IK10 rated
  • Operating temperature: -25°C to 50°C

VERDICT

The main advantage of choosing a VCHRGD Seven Pro is that you’ll not pay much for it. At circa £400 (without installation) it’s a decent offering.

But, if price is not your priority what do you get? Well, you’ll get a well-rounded, no-nonsense EV charger that focuses on reliability, usability, and installation simplicity.

It may not yet have the brand cachet or polished ecosystem of some premium rivals, but VCHRGD’s excellent Trustpilot does give a lot of confidence inspite of the comparatively short 3-year warranty. We are confident, from our test though, that the Seven Pro delivers where it matters: solid build quality, strong safety credentials, and all the key smart features most users will need.

The good points are solar compatibility, usability, the tethered and untethered options and decent connectivity. But, the smart tariff integration doesn’t look as advanced as rivals including the Ohme and Andersen products. That said, this is a very competitive mid-market option, particularly for buyers who want a capable, future-ready charger without overpaying for design flourishes or niche features.
