If you’re looking for one of the most refined home EV chargers on the market, the Zaptec Go is an excellent choice. It combines superb build quality with one of the best charger apps available and is backed by regular software updates that keep it feeling fresh long after it’s been installed.
It’s more expensive than many rivals and the untethered design won’t suit everyone, but if you’re happy to plug in your own cable, the Zaptec Go delivers a premium ownership experience that’s hard to fault.
First impressions
The first thing you notice about the Zaptec Go is its size—or rather, how small it is. It’s one of the most compact home chargers available, making it far less intrusive than many larger rivals.
The Scandinavian-inspired design is clean and understated, while the choice of six colours means it’s easy to match your home’s exterior. It feels solid, well engineered and very much like a premium product rather than simply another electrical appliance bolted to the wall.
Living with it
The Zaptec Go is designed to make charging as simple as possible. The companion app is intuitive, allowing you to schedule charging, monitor energy usage and receive notifications without navigating complicated menus.
Built-in WiFi, Bluetooth and 4G connectivity ensure the charger stays connected, while over-the-air software updates mean new features can be added without replacing the hardware. It’s the sort of charger you install once and then largely forget about—which is exactly what most owners want.
Is it worth paying more?
There’s no shortage of cheaper home chargers capable of delivering the same 7.4kW charging speed, so why spend more?
The answer lies in the overall ownership experience. Better build quality, excellent software, regular updates and a reputation for reliability all help justify the premium price. It may not be the cheapest charger to buy, but it could prove one of the easiest to live with over the long term.
What could be better?
No charger is perfect, and the Zaptec Go does have a couple of compromises.
The untethered design means you’ll need to connect your own Type 2 cable every time you charge, which some drivers find less convenient than a tethered unit. Smart tariff integration is also not quite as seamless as rivals such as the Ohme Home Pro, particularly for drivers using tariffs like Intelligent Octopus Go.
Neither is a deal breaker, but they’re worth considering before you buy.
